Concerned Driver Reports Teens Vaping Kpods, Highlights Growing Issue in Singapore”
On May 18, a 51-year-old private-hire driver named Guo encountered a troubling situation while transporting two young passengers in his vehicle. Around 9 a.m., Guo picked up the teens, who immediately began vaping openly in the backseat. Their destination was an HDB flat in Choa Chu Kang, but it was their behavior that raised alarm bells for Guo.
In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, Guo recounted his unease as he observed the passengers smoking e-cigarettes. “I felt something was wrong at the time,” he stated. His concerns deepened when he overheard the teens discussing their intention to pick up Kpods, a type of vape juice often mixed with etomidate, an anesthetic used in certain medical procedures. This substance has become increasingly problematic in Singapore, as reported by The Straits Times.
Guo noted that the teens appeared to be “dizzy” from their vaping, struggling to communicate clearly. Alarmed by their condition, he decided to take action and report the situation to the authorities. Initially planning to drive to a police station, he opted instead to approach the Traffic Police he spotted on the Bukit Timah Expressway.
Upon informing the officers of the situation, additional police and ambulances quickly arrived at the scene. Guo observed that the teens remained calm despite the circumstances. Reflecting on the incident, he expressed his concern over the rising trend of young people using e-cigarettes, emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of laws to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing issue of vaping among youth in Singapore and the potential dangers associated with substances like Kpods. Guo’s proactive response highlights the importance of community vigilance in addressing public health concerns.
