18-year-old Cai Jiaxu, a Polytechnic student, was sentenced to nine months of probation for spitting over a fourth-storey railing at Bugis Junction because he was “bored”.

The incident reportedly happened after the government raised Singapore’s outbreak alert response level to Orange in view of the worsening Covid-19 situation.
His friends posted a video of him spitting on their Instagram accounts and before they could delete it, the video had already gone viral online.
Cai is also required to perform 60 hours of community service and stay indoors from 10pm to 6am everyday throughout the entirety of his probabation.
A bond of $5,000 was also posted by his parents to ensure his good behavior.
