
According to a media release, a 15-year-old teenager was charged by the London Metropolitan Police for his involvement of attacking a Singaporean student in London. The attack was sparked by comments that were made about COVID-19 and the Chinese race.

The teenager was charged with “wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent” in connection with the “racially aggravated assault”.
The incident happened on the 24 Feb 2020 around the Tottenham Court Road station. The victim felt angry after learning that he was attacked for being a Chinese.
The police were alerted after the attack and the group of attackers left the scene before the police arrived.
The police had arrested 2 teenagers aged 15 and 16 years old who were linked to the case while trying to identify the rest of the attackers. After further investigation, the 16-year-old suspect was released with no further action taken.
According to the Singapore High Commission, they have been following up with the London Police closely in regards to the case. They are making sure that the London police is looking into the case at the highest level.
