The tragic accident in Sipitang, Sabah, resulted in the deaths of two teenagers and injuries to three others after their car crashed while fleeing from a chasing Road Transport Department (JPJ) patrol car. The car, carrying five people, was heading to Kampung Sibubu from a shopping complex when JPJ enforcement officials attempted to stop the driver for inspection. However, the driver sped off, leading to a high-speed chase that ultimately ended in a fatal crash.
According to Sipitang district police chief Deputy Supt Mail Sundongi, the 19-year-old driver and a 14-year-old girl in the rear passenger seat died on the spot, while the other passengers were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The car veered off the road and landed in a ditch along Jalan Sabah Forest Industries, causing the driver and passenger to be pinned inside the vehicle.
DSP Mail said that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act. JPJ enforcement officials immediately informed the police of the accident, and firemen were called in to help extricate the bodies from the wreckage.
The accident has raised concerns about the dangers of high-speed chases and the importance of complying with traffic laws. It serves as a tragic reminder that disobeying traffic rules and attempting to evade law enforcement can have devastating consequences.
