Teenagers Allegedly Assault Man In MacPherson And Steal S$8,000 Worth Of One Piece Trading Cards
A group of teenagers has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a man and stealing valuable trading cards during a late-night meeting in Singapore.
According to the Singapore Police Force, three teenagers aged between 15 and 17 were detained for their suspected involvement in a case of robbery with hurt that took place in the MacPherson area.
Police said they were alerted to the incident at around 1:10am on March 6. The case reportedly occurred along Balam Road, where the victim had arranged to meet the teenagers for what he believed was a legitimate transaction involving collectible trading cards.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly contacted the 34-year-old victim under the pretext of purchasing a set of One Piece trading cards valued at approximately S$8,000.
Alleged Robbery Took Place During Card Transaction
Authorities believe the meeting was arranged specifically for the sale of the cards, which are part of the increasingly popular One Piece Trading Card Game collectible series.
However, instead of completing the purchase, the teenagers allegedly assaulted the victim during the encounter and made off with the trading cards.
The man sustained minor injuries during the attack. Emergency services transported him to hospital, where he was reported to be conscious while receiving treatment.
Cases involving collectible card transactions have been rising globally, as rare cards from popular franchises such as anime and gaming series can command significant resale values on the secondary market. High-value collectibles have increasingly become targets for theft and scams linked to online marketplaces and private meetups.
Suspects Identified Within Hours Of Police Report
Following the report, officers from the Bedok Police Division launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
Using images captured from police cameras and nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems, investigators were able to trace the identities of the three suspects.
The teenagers were arrested within 16 hours of the police report being filed, demonstrating the speed of modern surveillance and digital investigation tools used in Singapore’s law enforcement efforts.
Police also confirmed that the stolen trading cards were successfully recovered during the operation.
One Teen To Be Charged In Court
Authorities stated that the 17-year-old suspect will be charged in court for the offence of robbery with hurt.
Under Singapore law, robbery with hurt is considered a serious criminal offence. Those convicted face a jail term ranging from five to 20 years, along with a mandatory punishment of at least 12 strokes of the cane.
The two other teenagers are currently assisting with ongoing investigations.
The case highlights the potential risks associated with private meetups for high-value collectibles, especially when transactions are arranged online without proper verification or safe meeting arrangements. Law enforcement agencies have repeatedly advised members of the public to conduct such deals in secure locations and to remain cautious when handling expensive items during person-to-person sales.
