In the age of the internet, where social media platforms connect people across the globe, there’s a sinister side that has emerged.
In recent news, a Telegram group with nearly 9,000 members has come under scrutiny for allegedly sharing obscene photos and videos of young women engaging in obscene activities at various HDB estates.
Introduction
The case came to light through a report by Shin Min Daily News on October 22. It revealed that the Telegram group had been distributing explicit content, often depicting obscene activities at HDB estates across Singapore.
What’s even more disturbing is that these videos were purportedly submitted by members themselves. The administrator of the group would then engage members by asking them to guess the locations where these explicit acts took place.
The Telegram Group and Its Activities
The content shared on this Telegram group ranges from individuals engaging in intercausal activities at public places to private encounters, some involving unsuspecting victims.
The videos even included disturbing instances of young women in school uniforms. It remains uncertain whether these women were underage.
Additionally, the group’s administrator took things a step further by sharing links to the social media profiles of women whose private videos had been leaked. This invasion of privacy and potential doxxing further exacerbates the severity of the situation.
Concerns and Legal Implications
The legality of such activities is questionable at best. Circulating obscene materials is an offense under Section 292 of the Penal Code, and the consequences for transmitting such materials electronically can include imprisonment for up to three months and/or hefty fines.
Distributing voyeuristic content, as per Section 377BC of the Penal Code, can result in imprisonment for up to five years and/or caning.
Additionally, Section 376A(1)(a) of the Penal Code deals with penetration of a minor below 16 years and can lead to imprisonment for up to 10 years and/or hefty fines.
