A Malaysian woman working in Singapore shared how she was thrown out of the room that she rented in Hougang by her landlord less than a day after moving in.
The woman and her boyfriend had moved their belongings into the room on 18 January, and themselves into the room on 25 January.
She then got a phone call from the landlord the next day, asking them to pack up and leave, threatening to throw their things out if they didn’t do so.
She had returned home that day and found all of her belongings outside the HDB unit, the landlord also accused the woman and her boyfriend of bringing drugs into his home.
The woman said that the police were called in but the landlord had allegedly pretended not to understand anything.
She accused the landlord of handling their belongings without asking them for permission, to which the landlord said that he was “allowed” to look at their belongings, reasoning that if they bring drugs in, he’ll “face the death penalty”.
The police were also heard in the videos that the woman posted, warning the landlord against making accusations without basis about drugs.
He had also refused to return the $800 that the tenants had paid for the room, which includes a deposit fee of $500 – but the woman then clarified later that she had managed to get back $700.
