A 15-year-old boy in Buriram, Thailand, has been taken into custody after allegedly shooting his father eight times in a desperate attempt to escape years of physical mistreatment. The incident occurred on the evening of June 17 in Ban Nong Hua Chang Pattana, Lam Plai Mat District.

According to reports from Thai news outlet Workpoint News, the teenager used a 9mm handgun, which reportedly belonged to his father, to shoot the 51-year-old man, identified only as Choksan. One of the bullets struck the father under the right armpit, causing serious internal injuries. He was subsequently rushed to Buriram Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Claims of Long-Term Mistreatment

During police questioning, the boy admitted to the shooting, explaining that it was the culmination of years of physical mistreatment that began when he was just eight years old. He described the violence he endured, stating, “He slapped me, punched me, kicked me. I couldn’t take it anymore.” On the day of the shooting, he claimed his father had beaten him again, this time in front of his mother, which pushed him to act out of rage.

The teenager revealed that he learned how to load the gun by watching YouTube videos and did not keep track of how many shots he fired. He expressed immediate regret for his actions, indicating that he acted out of desperation.

Family Confirms History of Violence

The boy’s 63-year-old grandmother corroborated his claims of ongoing mistreatment, stating that her grandson had suffered relentless physical assaults from his father despite repeated pleas from both her and the boy’s mother for the violence to stop. She recounted various injuries he had sustained, including split eyebrows, open head wounds, and a dislocated tooth.

About ten days prior to the shooting, the teen reportedly confided in his grandmother, questioning his existence and expressing despair over his suffering. He had also asked whether he would go to hell for killing someone. Despite her attempts to console him and dissuade him from violence, the tragic incident unfolded.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are currently investigating the ownership of the firearm used in the shooting. As the suspect is a minor, formal charges have not yet been filed. Police will consult with prosecutors and a multidisciplinary team to determine the appropriate next steps in the case.

This incident highlights the severe consequences of domestic mistreatment and raises questions about the support systems in place for victims of violence within families.
