A video went viral of a woman seen walking around with the majestic bird known as the Grey Crowned Crane.
A domestic worker was seen carrying the bird and walking happily along Joan Road located at Caldecott residences near the Thomson road area.
Channel News Asia (CNA) managed to find the owner of the bird and interviewed the household saying that they left the gate open which allowed the bird to escape.
When reporters from CNA tried to ask for more details they were given “All I can share is the bird is licensed, so we have a permit for it.”
According to Wikipedia: “The Grey Crowned Crane is faces threats to its habitat due to drainage, overgrazing, and pesticide pollution. Their global population is estimated to be between 58,000 and 77,000 individuals. In 2012 it was uplisted from vulnerable to endangered by the IUCN”
In Singapore, it is legal to import such bird but requires prior permits from the relevant authorities such as AVA before they are allowed to own it.
