South Korean plastic surgeons are renowned amongst their international peers and have presented or have had special tributes at prestigious cosmetic surgery conferences outside of Korea, such as the annual one hosted by American Board of Plastic Surgeons.
South Korea does have various plastic surgeon boards. The most notable being the Korean Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (KAAPS). Entry into this organization requires members to a licensed plastic surgeon. In Korea, there are approximately 1,500+ licensed plastic surgeons. However, due to an interesting loophole in South Korean law there are actually about 15,000 doctors practicing plastic surgery without actually being licensed to do so. This was a figure that KAAPS determined in a report put out earlier this year.
All elective procedures, or medical procedures for that matter carry risks with them. The best way to minimize that risk, is to go to a clinic that is licensed and insured to treat foreign medical patients, and that the doctor performing the procedure is a licensed plastic surgeon.
