The Traffic Police (TP) and Land Transport Authority (LTA) recently conducted a three-day island-wide enforcement operation from 18 to 20 August 2025, focusing on errant commercial vehicle drivers. During this period, officers stopped 166 commercial vehicles and issued 121 summonses for a range of traffic offences. These included speeding, using mobile communication devices while driving, failing to keep left, improperly securing loads, and not displaying speed limiter labels clearly on the front windscreen. Additionally, 93 LTA-related violations were detected, including overloaded vehicles and excluded vehicles travelling on expressways without permits.
Seventeen heavy vehicles were found not displaying the required speed limiter labels. Speed limiters are essential safety devices that restrict a vehicle’s maximum speed, helping to reduce the risk and severity of accidents. Heavy vehicles, in particular, pose greater risks to other road users if they exceed speed limits. TP reminds vehicle owners that heavy vehicles with maximum laden weight (MLW) exceeding 12,000kg must be fitted with speed limiters and display the labels visibly. Non-compliance is an offence under Rule 7(2) of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Speed Limiters) Rules.
Road Safety and Compliance Encouraged
TP also highlighted upcoming requirements for lorries with MLW between 3,501kg and 12,000kg, with the first compliance deadline set for 1 January 2026. Companies are encouraged to expedite installation of speed limiters to avoid fines, reduce maintenance costs, save fuel, and minimise vehicle downtime. A list of authorised agents for speed limiter installation is available on the Singapore Police Force’s website.
All motorists are reminded to comply with traffic laws, as TP continues to take a firm stance against reckless drivers who endanger public safety. Penalties for offences range from fines of up to $2,000, imprisonment for repeat offenders, or both, depending on the severity and recurrence of the offence.
This enforcement blitz underscores the authorities’ commitment to road safety and the importance of responsible driving among commercial vehicle operators. Motorists are encouraged to remain vigilant and ensure compliance with traffic regulations to prevent accidents and protect the safety of all road users.
