TikToker Fined S$30,000 for Accusing Rosmah Mansor of Using Black Magic

A Malaysian TikTok content creator has been ordered by the courts to pay a total of RM120,000 (approximately S$36,000) to Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, after accusing her of engaging in black magic and polytheistic practices on social media.

The court ruling came after Rosmah, 71, filed a defamation lawsuit against Ku Muhammad Hilmie Ku Din, 35, for publishing a video on TikTok in March 2023 that made serious and unverified claims about her alleged involvement with shamans, idolatry, and practices deemed un-Islamic.

Court Sides with Rosmah Over Slanderous Claims

According to Kosmo and South China Morning Post, Rosmah took legal action in September 2023, stating the TikTok video caused reputational harm, emotional distress, and loss of public confidence. In her affidavit, she highlighted how the slander affected her mental well-being and her ability to appear in public without fear of ridicule or confrontation.

Rosmah’s legal team initially sought RM1 million (S$301,000) in general damages. However, the judge ruled there was insufficient evidence to justify the full amount. Instead, the court awarded her RM100,000 (S$30,155) in damages and RM20,000 (S$6,000) in legal costs. Additionally, a 5% annual interest on the total sum will be applied until full payment is made.

TikToker Failed to Attend Hearings

Court documents revealed that Ku Muhammad Hilmie failed to show up for both the May 2024 proceedings and the more recent Zoom court hearing on 8 July 2025, leading to a default judgement in Rosmah’s favour.

The video, which has since been taken down, reportedly alleged that Rosmah was involved with devil worship, black magic, and other forms of sorcery — all considered offensive and defamatory under Malaysian defamation law.

Rosmah, who is also facing her own legal battles, expressed that these accusations had deeply hurt her image, especially as the former First Lady and wife of a public figure.

H2: Context — Ongoing Legal Woes for Najib and Rosmah

While this defamation case unfolds, both Najib and Rosmah are no strangers to controversy. Najib is currently serving time for his role in the 1MDB corruption scandal, which involved the misappropriation of US$4.5 billion (S$5.7 billion) from the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund.

Rosmah, too, was convicted of corruption in relation to a RM1.25 billion (S$377 million) solar energy project meant for rural schools in Sarawak. She is currently appealing the verdict.

This latest legal win, however, marks a rare moment of vindication for Rosmah in the public eye.
