According to reports from the Indian Express, the incident occurred around 3 PM on March 3 in the 36th district of Greater Noida. The victim, identified as Nagar, had just finished using the toilet and pressed the flush button when the entire toilet suddenly exploded, creating a loud noise and igniting a fire.

Methane gas Ignited

Nagar’s father, Pradhan, speculated that the explosion might have been caused by a blockage in the toilet, leading to a buildup of methane gas that was ignited, resulting in the explosion. Following the incident, Nagar was rushed to a hospital in Greater Noida, where doctors confirmed that he had sustained burns on 35% of his body, particularly on his face and torso.

Pradhan explained that at the time of the explosion, there were no electrical appliances in use in the bathroom, and Nagar was not using his mobile phone, which ruled out the possibility of the explosion being related to electronic devices. Preliminary investigations by local authorities suggested that the explosion was likely caused by methane gas accumulation due to a clogged drainage pipe, which may have been ignited by an unknown spark.

Residents in the area have pointed out that there is a persistent issue with the drainage system, stating, “The drainage pipes here are not only old but have not been cleaned for years. Blocked pipes can lead to gas buildup, which could explode under pressure.” However, the property management of the building where the incident occurred insisted that there were no abnormalities and suggested that the explosion might have been caused by internal issues within the house.
