It was previously reported that a boy had accidentally knocked over a golden Teletubby statue tha was worth HK$33.600 (SGD$5,879).
The parents of the boy had to pay for the broken statue after a staff member of the toy shop told the boy’s father that he kicked the statue over.
However, CCTV footage of the incident emerged online, showing that the boy didn’t kick the statue, but had leaned on it and caused it to fall.
The shop, KKPlus, had initially posted a statement on their Facebook page saying that the matter had been resolved.
However, the statement was later deleted, with the parent company of the shop, Kidsland International, later issuing another statement saying that they have apologised to the family, according to Hong Kong Free Press and The Standard.
They have also fully refunded the family and said that they will immediately make improvements to avoid similar incidents from happening.
This comes in the wake of intense backlash from the public who questioned why the 1.8m tall statue was not secured properly or even cordoned off, after the emergence of the CCTV footage.
The manager of the shop have since removed all toys that are more than 1m tall and will be reviewing the incident.
