A Toyota Wish driver was caught on camera travelling against the flow of traffic along Old Tampines Road, creating a dangerous situation that nearly resulted in a head-on collision.
The incident, which was captured by a dashcam and later shared on social media, took place at around 9am on 23 July. Fortunately, no injuries or damage were reported despite the risky manoeuvre.
The footage has since attracted attention online, with many motorists criticising the driver’s actions and highlighting the dangers of ignoring road markings and traffic rules.
Dashcam Captures Dangerous Overtaking Attempt
The video begins with a queue of vehicles travelling along the left side of the road, with traffic moving slowly in a single lane. A continuous white line separates the two directions of travel, indicating that motorists are not permitted to cross into the opposing lane except under limited circumstances, such as turning into a driveway or avoiding an immediate hazard.
Moments later, a black Toyota Wish enters the frame from behind, travelling on the wrong side of the road in an apparent attempt to bypass the line of waiting vehicles.
Instead of remaining behind the queue, the driver continues driving against oncoming traffic, significantly increasing the risk of a collision with vehicles approaching from the opposite direction.
Driver Narrowly Avoids Head-On Collision
As the Toyota proceeds, an oncoming yellow vehicle appears ahead. With little room to manoeuvre, the Toyota driver steers towards the centre of the road, narrowly avoiding what could have been a serious head-on crash.
Rather than immediately returning to the correct lane, the vehicle continues driving along the centre line for several moments before proceeding further down the road.
Only when approaching a section with raised kerb dividers is the driver forced to merge back into the proper lane, bringing the dangerous manoeuvre to an end.
Motorists Reminded to Follow Road Rules
Although the incident did not result in injuries or property damage, it serves as a reminder of how quickly unsafe driving decisions can put multiple road users at risk.
Driving against the flow of traffic, particularly on a road divided by a continuous white line, leaves little time for other motorists to react and can easily lead to severe or even fatal accidents.
Motorists are encouraged to remain patient during periods of congestion and to comply with all road markings and traffic regulations. Attempting to save a few moments by driving into oncoming traffic can have devastating consequences for everyone on the road.
