TRAGIC LOSS: 26-YEAR-OLD SET TO WED IN DECEMBER, DIES IN A JOHOR ACCIDENT

A 26-year-old man, Mohammad Shahfiq Imran, tragically lost his life in a container lorry accident on March 23 in Johor Bahru, while on his way to Pagoh, Johor, for a pre-dawn meal with a group of friends. The incident occurred when one of the group’s motorcycles had a flat tire, causing them to stop at an R&R (rest and recreation) area at Yong Peng. The lorry crashed into the waiting convoy, resulting in Shahfiq’s death along with his friend, Mohamad Firman Nordin, also 26.

Shahfiq’s mother, Norris Sanat, 48, shared her heartbreak with Berita Harian, stating that her son was her closest child, and the two frequently communicated, with Shahfiq calling her at least twice a day during her work hours. The family had been preparing for his upcoming marriage, with all the preparations already completed, even down to the wedding attire.

The couple was set to receive the keys to their new Senja flat in April and had planned to get married on Dec. 7. Afini Zahit, Shahfiq’s 27-year-old fiancée, had been with him for three years and described him as a remarkably kind individual.

Mediacorp Suria paid tribute to Shahfiq following the accident, remembering him as the winner of the 2017 Mediacorp Suria talent show “Anugerah.”

In addition to Shahfiq and Mohamad Firman Nordin, four other Singaporean men were severely injured in the crash and are receiving treatment at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Johor.
