The Police have arrested two men and a woman, aged between 20 and 47, for their suspected involvement in two cases of theft.
On 11 May 2024 at about 2.30pm, the Police were alerted to a case of mobile phone that was purportedly stolen from victim’s handbag in the vicinity of Orchard Road.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identities of the two men and the woman and arrested them on the same day within three hours of the report. The mobile phone was subsequently recovered. Preliminary investigations revealed that, they were also allegedly involved in another theft case that happened in the nearby vicinity where a pouch containing a branded wallet, cash amounting to $50 and branded wireless earphones, were stolen from another victim.
The trio will be charged in court on 13 May 2024 with the offence of Theft with Common Intention under Section 379 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code 1871.The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 3 years and a fine.
Members of the public are advised to safeguard their belongings and be vigilant against pickpockets. The Police would like to remind the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Look after your belongings at all times;
- Be cautious when approached by strangers who try to get very close to you;
- Avoid carrying large amounts of cash or wearing excessive jewellery to crowded places;
- Ensure your bag is closed at all times and sling it in front of you;
- Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket; and
- Dial ‘999’ for urgent assistance
