Trump Threatens Military Action Against Oman Over Strait Of Hormuz Dispute

US President Donald Trump has issued a warning against Oman amid rising tensions surrounding the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, threatening military action if the Gulf nation interferes with American efforts to control shipping routes through the area.

Trump made the remarks during an interview with Fox News chief foreign correspondent Trey Yingst on Monday local time, saying the United States would respond forcefully if Oman attempted to block its operations in the region.

“If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the country,” Trump said during the interview.

The comments came as tensions continue to escalate between Washington and Tehran, with the Strait of Hormuz becoming a major point of disagreement due to its importance in global energy transportation.

Strait Of Hormuz Becomes Flashpoint Amid US-Iran Conflict

The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints, with a significant portion of global oil shipments passing through its waters.

Oman, a long-time US ally, has maintained diplomatic ties with Iran and has been involved in discussions regarding shipping arrangements through the strait.

Trump later addressed reporters at the White House and criticised Omani officials over their ongoing talks with Iran, saying he believed the country had not handled the situation appropriately.

However, he added that the United States could deal with the situation easily, comparing it to previous actions taken by his administration.

The latest remarks followed an earlier warning made by Trump in May, when he said Oman would need to cooperate with US demands or face consequences.

US-Iran Negotiations Reach Critical Deadline

The comments came as a 60-day memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran expired. The agreement, signed in June, was intended to provide a framework for negotiations aimed at ending the conflict and reaching an agreement over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Trump had also previously suggested plans to declare the Strait of Hormuz as a US-controlled territory, further increasing concerns over the future of regional security and international shipping.

When questioned about the situation, Trump claimed that the United States already had “total control” over the strait.

The White House has not issued an official statement responding to Trump’s remarks regarding Oman.

The situation has raised concerns among international observers over the potential impact on energy markets, global trade routes and diplomatic relations in the Middle East, as any military escalation near the Strait of Hormuz could affect oil prices and supply chains worldwide.
