Footage from various dashboard cameras on the road at the time of the accident provided insight into the events leading up to and following the collision. A black Saab was observed attempting to overtake a white Mercedes along Bedok Reservoir Road. The Mercedes was sideswiped as the Saab overtook it.

The Saab failed to adhere to the red light and continued through the junction, while the Mercedes stopped at the red light. The impact footage showed the Saab colliding with multiple vehicles traveling straight along Tampines Avenue 1 or turning left into Tampines Avenue 4. A few members of the public, including a nurse and two off-duty SCDF officers, provided assistance to the injured at the scene.
