On May 15, 2025, two elderly men were discovered deceased in separate flats located in Ang Mo Kio and Sengkang, with authorities indicating that no foul play is suspected in either case. Both men reportedly left behind a foul odor, suggesting that they had been deceased for some time before their bodies were found.
First Case
According to Zaobao, The first incident occurred in a newly constructed block at Block 651A Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9. Residents of the building, who had only moved in towards the end of the previous year, were not well acquainted with the 68-year-old man who lived alone. A neighbour mentioned that her children had seen the man alive just a few days prior, on May 11, when he opened his door to collect a parcel. However, she noted that he rarely interacted with others and had not received any visitors.
On the morning of May 15, a resident detected a foul smell emanating from his unit, which intensified throughout the day. After knocking on his door and finding it ajar without any response, she alerted the police, expressing regret that he may have fallen ill and passed away without receiving medical attention.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that they were alerted to the unnatural death around 3:40 PM on May 15. Upon arrival, they found the man lying motionless and pronounced him dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations indicated no signs of foul play, and police inquiries are ongoing.
2nd Case
The second case involved a 77-year-old man found dead in a flat at Block 279A Sengkang East Avenue on the same day. Police were notified of the situation around 12:25 PM. Upon arrival, officers also detected a foul odor and noted that the door to the flat was ajar. A personal mobility aid was visible inside, suggesting that an elderly resident lived there. Similar to the first case, preliminary investigations revealed no indications of foul play, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both incidents highlight the importance of community awareness and the need for regular check-ins on elderly residents who may live alone. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding these deaths, and further updates are expected as the inquiries progress.
