SCDF Confirms Emergency Call

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed they received an emergency call at around 7:30pm at 70 Yuan Ching Road. The man was quickly attended to and transported to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital for treatment. According to SCDF, timing is critical in such cases, as a person suffering cardiac arrest loses up to 10 per cent of survival chance every minute. Prompt intervention with CPR or an automated external defibrillator (AED) can boost survival chances to as high as 60 per cent.

Passers-By Jump Into Action

Video footage circulating on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu showed a woman performing chest compressions on the man while another person counted for her. The passer-by duo alternated in giving CPR and someone nearby offered an AED. An eyewitness, who was cycling at Jurong Lake Gardens around 8pm, said he saw the scene unfold and recorded it, later sharing it online.

Public Praises Bravery

The video drew positive attention, with many Xiaohongshu users expressing amazement at the willingness of ordinary Singaporeans to step in during emergencies. One viewer commented that it’s impressive how many people in Singapore appear to be trained in CPR, while another applauded the woman’s courage, noting that even with certification, many hope they never have to use it. Several users also asked where they could receive CPR training, with the Red Cross being suggested as a learning centre.

SCDF encourages everyone to learn basic life-saving skills, emphasising that in medical emergencies like cardiac arrests, every second truly matters.

This incident serves as a reminder that even a small act of courage from bystanders can make the difference between life and death, and shows the importance of knowing CPR and AED use.
