Two Women Arrested for Loan Shark Harassment in Pasir Ris

The Singapore Police Force has arrested two women, aged 20 and 24, for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment. The arrests were made following an incident reported on June 7, 2025, at approximately 10:40 PM, at a residential unit along Pasir Ris Street 21.

Incident Details

Upon receiving the alert, police officers arrived at the scene to find the main gate of the residential unit secured with a bicycle lock, accompanied by a debtor’s note affixed to the gate. This prompted immediate follow-up investigations by the Bedok Police Division and the Police Operations Command Centre.

Utilizing images captured by police cameras, officers were able to identify the two suspects. They were subsequently arrested on June 9 and June 10, 2025. During the operation, law enforcement seized two mobile phones and two red bicycle locks as evidence related to the case.

Legal Consequences

The two women are set to be charged in court on June 11, 2025, under the Moneylenders Act of 2008. For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries severe penalties, including:

  • A fine ranging from $5,000 to $50,000
  • Imprisonment for up to five years
  • Caning of up to six strokes

The Police have reiterated their zero tolerance for loanshark harassment and related activities. They emphasized that individuals who vandalize properties, cause public annoyance, or disrupt safety and peace will face stringent legal repercussions.
