UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS. “WE DON’T NEED IT YET” SAY SENIOR MINISTER THARMAN

Our unemployment rates in Singapore comparing to other developed countries and the SARS pandemic, is considerably low thus more benefits are not yet in the pipeline for the unemployed says Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

The govermnent had rolled out skills upgrading courses and job placements programmes for Singaporeans across the board and it has helped significantly in lowering our unemployment rates significantly low during the current pandemic.

When asked about his views of having an unemployment insurance scheme, SM Tharman replied:

“We don’t need it in Singapore yet because our unemployment rates are very low and we’ve been able to get people back into jobs relatively quickly,”
