UNI GRAD GETS OFFER OF $3K FOR 3 MONTHS OF JOB PROBATION, STILL NOT HAPPY WITH IT

3k for probation pay, chances of increment?

Advertisements

I am a fresh graduate and have just recently received a job offer in a startup in Singapore. Everything from application to interview and now the offer went extemely smoothly and I am also keen to take up the job offer.

The only minor thing is that I am offered $3000 per month for 3 months probation and the hiring managers told me via the call and the contract that after the probation, they will increase my pay according to performance. So the following are some concerns I have:

  1. Is it a reasonable offer and is it worth it to take up the offer as a uni grad?
  2. What are the chances of increment they have agreed and how much increment should I expect for those of you who experienced similar offers from startups?

Thank you very much!

  1. The increment is not guaranteed and its more likely than not that you’ll not receive said increment. By the time you get around to asking about it or ifyou ask for it to be in the contract, management will add in a good performance condition. You’ll naturally not meet the condition when the time comes. Do not fall for this
  2. I don’t think it’s an issue as long as it’s written clearly in your employment contract that it’s a GUARANTEED and automatic increment upon your passing probation and it should also be clearly stated how much increment you will be getting.
  3. I hate it when company does this Carrot on a stick wanting to pay low until they good quality candidates, unless you got black and white saying if you pass probation and you’ll get a higher salary amount then it’s safer. Imagine only a 10% increment after probation
  4. I’ve worked in startups before, now working in a SME that has been around for a longer period of time. I feel like there’s not much that you can learn in startups. Many of the startups I’ve worked in were messy and disorganised. You can learn more by working in a company that’s more established with a solid structure and methods that have been proven to be successful for the business to last for many years, rather than a startup that doesn’t have a solid customer base yet and still trying to find out what works and what doesn’t.
  5. I feel like my time spent in startups was quite a waste of time. A lot of times I see people doing things that made me smh and think that they wouldn’t last. Also heard boss kpkb-ing every other day about losing money and worrying about this and that. Even if they offer you a better pay, how long can the company last?
