A university graduate in China, Liu Xiaoli, quit her administrative job after her son started schooling and her parents were racking up expenses; her mother’s health was also failing and the family needed money.
Liu then quit her office job and started working as a cleaner instead.
She cleaned houses for 6 months, and didn’t dare to tell her father what she does for a living because of the social stigma.
She eventually told her father the truth and reasoned that just because she went to university, doesn’t mean she had to get a job that was presentable.
Her father surprisingly concurred with her viewpoint.
Liu shared that she worked 17 hours a day, from 7am to 2am the next day, and sometimes doesn’t even have time to stop for a meal – she would buy some bread or fast food and eat it while on their way to the next house.
Her hard work has since paid off and she now owns two properties in Zhengzhou, as well as 2 cars, after 2 years of sweat.
She said that she intends to continue working in this industry, and hopes to bring in others who are unsure how to start or are too proud to do it.
