26-Year-Old Arrested for Loanshark Harassment in Upper Boon Keng
In a decisive action against loanshark activities, the Police have arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of involvement in a case of loanshark harassment. The incident occurred on June 17, 2025, at approximately 12:30 AM, when authorities were alerted to a residential unit along Upper Boon Keng Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the main gate was secured with a bicycle lock, and the wall adjacent to the unit was defaced with loanshark-related graffiti.
Following the report, officers from the Bedok Police Division, in collaboration with the Police Operations Command Centre, conducted thorough investigations. Utilizing images captured by Police cameras, they were able to identify the suspect and apprehend him within 12 hours of the initial report. During the arrest, law enforcement seized a mobile phone, two bicycle locks, and two red markers, which are considered case exhibits.
Legal Consequences for Loanshark Harassment
The suspect is scheduled to face charges in court on June 18, 2025, under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first-time offenders, the penalties for loanshark harassment are severe, with fines ranging from S$5,000 to S$50,000, along with potential imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes. This stringent approach underscores the Police’s commitment to combating loanshark activities and protecting the community from such criminal behaviour.
