For the first time in over 40 years, new public housing will be constructed in the iconic location of Pearl’s Hill, near Chinatown.

With a promise of 6,000 housing units to be built over the next decade, this development aims to provide a fresh perspective on urban living.

A Vision for the Future

  • “Hillside Living in the City”

The URA is calling this ambitious endeavor “hillside living in the city.” It envisions a diverse housing landscape that caters to the varying needs and lifestyle preferences of its future residents.

This exciting development is not limited to public housing; it will encompass a mix of Build-to-Order (BTO) flats, rental flats, condominiums, and serviced apartments.

  • Expanding Horizons

The URA’s vision extends beyond Pearl’s Hill. Plans are also in motion to create new housing estates in locations central to Singapore, including Bukit Timah Turf City, Mount Pleasant, and the former Keppel golf course site.

These ambitious projects were unveiled by Mr. Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development and Minister-in-charge of Social Services Integration, at the “My City, My Home” exhibition held at the URA Centre.

  • Public Participation

In line with their commitment to inclusivity, the URA is actively seeking feedback from the public regarding these plans. The exhibition at the URA Centre, where these plans will be displayed, will run until February 2, 2024.

This move ensures that the community’s voice is heard, and their concerns are addressed in the development process.

Pearl’s Hill: A Vibrant Community Hub

  • Inclusive Development

As one of the two remaining hills in Singapore, Pearl’s Hill will undergo transformation into an inclusive and community-centric neighborhood. Future residents can anticipate a myriad of amenities within a proposed mixed-use development.

This development will seamlessly integrate with Outram Park MRT station and the surrounding neighborhood, fulfilling daily needs and creating a vibrant community hub.

  • A Strategic Location

Pearl’s Hill enjoys a strategic location, nestled near the Central Business District, Chinatown Historic District, and Tiong Bahru neighborhood.

With access to four MRT lines and its classification as a car-lite district, residents can expect ease of movement within the city.

  • A Pedestrian-Friendly Environment

Pearl’s Hill will boast a network of street-level and elevated connections, promoting a delightful pedestrian and cycling experience.

These connections will also grant convenient access to Pearl’s Hill City Park, key transport and amenity nodes, and a seamless walking experience towards surrounding urban precincts such as Robertson Quay and Fort Canning Park.

  • Nature in the Heart of the City

To enhance the overall experience, the National Parks Board will be improving Pearl’s Hill City Park by introducing new facilities and contemplative landscapes that support the well-being of park users.

This move adds a touch of nature to the urban living experience.

Bukit Timah Turf City: Blending Heritage and Greenery

  • Preserving Heritage

The development in Bukit Timah Turf City promises to honor the area’s rich heritage and natural greenery. It will retain and repurpose selected clusters of former racecourse buildings and structures, creating a unique sense of place and identity.

  • Ecological Connectivity

The character of this neighborhood will be anchored in its rich heritage as a former racecourse while retaining areas with ecological value.

A network of green landscapes will be established to foster ecological connectivity, ensuring a balance between urban development and natural preservation.
