USA WILL ALLOW TRANSGENDERS TO MARK ‘X’ IN PASSPORT APPLICATION UNDER GENDER

According to a report by CNA, the United States of America (USA) will start to allow their transgenders to mark an ‘X’ on their passport applications under the gender section.

This was announced by the US government on 31 March 2022 and will take place from 11 April 2022.

This will allow Americans who see themselves as Transgenders to choose an ‘X’ on their gender regardless of their gender in previous official documents.

The White House said that this decision was made because for way too long, Americans who identify as gender neutral were not able to travel safely within the country and around the world and they were also not getting the respect which they deserve.

It added that this move is a major step in the President’s commitments to expand access to identification documents which accurately mark the genders for the non-binary people as well as the transgenders.

The TSA is also working closely with airline companies around the country to promote the use of the new ‘X’ gender identifier and for it to gain acceptance so that passenger processing can be more accurate and efficient.

There are currently two major domestic airlines who have a third gender marker option for their customers in their reservation systems with another airline to join the two in offering this option later in the year.

Procedures were also changed by the TSA so that gender considerations can be removed when checking out a traveler’s identity at airports and checkpoints.
