A 48-year-old man in Singapore is facing a charge of attempted murder after allegedly driving into a 32-year-old cyclist with the intent to cause death along Kaki Bukit Avenue 5, earlier this year on 16 March.
The Incident: A Collision and Intent to Cause Death
On March 16, 2023, the alleged incident unfolded at Kaki Bukit, involving a van and a cyclist. The accused, Toh Sze Ee, 48 years old, allegedly collided with the cyclist, Hossen Selim, 32, intentionally aiming to cause death. The incident took place along Kaki Bukit Avenue 5, towards Kaki Bukit Road, around 5:05 pm.
According to court documents, the evidence suggests that Toh Sze Ee purposely drove his van into Hossen Selim, indicating a premeditated act with the intent to cause fatal harm.
Additional Charges: Dealing with Contraband Cigarettes
Aside from the charge of attempted murder, Toh Sze Ee is facing two additional charges related to the possession and distribution of contraband cigarettes.
On June 20, 2023, he was allegedly involved in dealing with 3,948 cartons of contraband cigarettes near Block 1, East Coast Road.
These actions have significant financial implications, as Toh Sze Ee is accused of evading duty fees amounting to approximately S$387,694 and goods and services taxes worth S$34,900 on these items.

Toh Sze Ee is scheduled to return to court on July 26, 2023, to face the charges leveled against him. The judicial process will determine the course of action and the potential consequences he might face if found guilty.
The charge of attempted murder carries severe penalties. If convicted, Toh Sze Ee could face life imprisonment and caning as the maximum punishment.
