Driver Flees Scene After GetGo Car Crash in Bedok Reservoir; Knives and Vapes Discovered Inside Vehicle
Authorities are currently working to locate a driver who fled the scene of a car accident involving a GetGo vehicle in Bedok Reservoir early Saturday morning.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred around 1:45 AM on November 9, when the rental car reportedly lost control and crashed into a road divider along Bedok Reservoir Road. A video shared with Shin Min Daily News shows the car perched on the divider, with parts of the fence embedded in its front end. Additionally, witnesses noted that petrol was leaking from the vehicle onto the roadway.
Mr. Huang, a 62-year-old passerby, recounted his experience of driving past the scene while heading to his hawker stall. He described how he encountered the GetGo car on the divider and noticed metal debris scattered on the road, which he later identified as parts of the fence. After stopping to investigate, he found no sign of the driver, leading him to believe that the individual had fled the scene before the police arrived, likely out of fear of the repercussions.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that they received reports of the accident at approximately 1:55 AM. They stated that the vehicle was believed to have skidded off the road. Despite the police’s prompt response, the driver had already left the area.
Upon inspecting the abandoned vehicle, authorities discovered three knives, two e-vaporisers, and various items associated with drug use. The suspected drug-related materials have been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau, while the e-vaporiser-related findings were forwarded to the Health Sciences Authority for further investigation.
A spokesperson for GetGo acknowledged awareness of the incident but refrained from providing additional details, citing the ongoing investigation. A construction worker who arrived at the site later that morning reported that the car remained lodged on the divider when he began his shift at 7 AM.
As investigations continue, the police are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the driver involved in this incident.
