VIETNAM WOMAN JAILED IN SG, THROWS PHONE FROM FIFTH FLOOR & ATTACKS SON

A 36-year-old Singapore permanent resident has been sentenced to more than 15 months in jail after a series of disturbing offences involving both child abuse and a dangerous act at a public housing block.

The Vietnamese national, whose identity cannot be disclosed to protect her children, pleaded guilty to one count of ill-treating her son and one count of committing a rash act. Several additional charges were also considered during sentencing. According to Channel NewsAsia, she had previously been jailed for a similar offence just months earlier, raising concerns about repeated abusive behaviour.

The court heard that the woman had custody of her two young sons, aged eight and nine at the time of the incidents. The abuse reportedly occurred over a period of months before it was eventually uncovered.

Violent Punishment Over Minor Incident

One of the most alarming incidents took place in September 2024. After her elder son accidentally soiled himself while returning home from buying food, the woman reacted violently. Instead of addressing the situation calmly, she brought the child to the bathroom and assaulted him using a showerhead.

She repeatedly struck his head and shoved him against the wall, causing visible injuries. The boy suffered cuts and bled heavily, yet no medical treatment was sought. The mother instead bandaged his wounds herself, further raising questions about neglect and accountability.

The abuse did not end there. Both children later reported being slapped on multiple occasions, and video evidence surfaced showing them being hit with cardboard. Their father eventually alerted authorities, leading to police intervention and further investigation into the household.

Dangerous “Killer Litter” Incident

In a separate incident in November 2025, the woman became involved in a heated argument with her boyfriend. During the dispute, she threw household items, including a standing fan and a water kettle, onto the floor before escalating the situation further.

After her boyfriend left the unit, she proceeded to throw his mobile phone out of the flat, sending it crashing down five floors. The items were later found outside the block, prompting an unrelated passer-by to lodge a police report.

Initially, the woman denied responsibility and attempted to blame her boyfriend. However, she later admitted to the act when confronted with evidence. Prosecutors highlighted the seriousness of such “killer litter” offences, noting the potentially fatal consequences of objects being thrown from height in residential areas.

Court Highlights Severity Of Offences

During sentencing, the prosecution emphasised the vulnerability of the young victim, who was physically unable to defend himself. The assault was described as excessive and completely disproportionate to the child’s actions.

The court also took into account the repeated nature of the abuse, as well as the broader risks posed by her reckless behaviour. In Singapore, offences involving child abuse and endangering public safety are treated with significant gravity, reflecting the nation’s strict legal stance on protecting both minors and the general public.

Ultimately, the woman received a combined sentence exceeding 15 months’ imprisonment, serving as a stark reminder of the serious consequences of domestic violence and irresponsible conduct in high-rise living environments.
