A burst pipe at SingPost Centre in Singapore caused chaos on Saturday night, June 29, when a sudden gush of water poured down from the ceiling, flooding the corridor outside a toilet. The incident occurred at around 9:10 pm, and although no one was injured, several shoppers, including a mother and her seven-year-old daughter, were left shaken.
The mother, who shared her experience on Xiaohongshu, a Chinese social media platform, described the terrifying moment when the lights went out, and water started dripping from the ceiling. The situation quickly escalated, with the water flow becoming a “waterfall” that poured down onto the floor. Her daughter, who was in the toilet at the time, had to climb onto a diaper-changing table to avoid the water and was eventually rescued by her mother.
The mother recounted that the experience was harrowing, and her daughter was left crying for several minutes. She expressed relief that her daughter did not have nightmares that night, but acknowledged that the incident was traumatic for her child.
SingPost Centre attributed the burst pipe to the installation of a new water meter and assured that maintenance crews were immediately dispatched to the scene. The affected area was cordoned off, but the rest of the mall remained operational. The mall expressed gratitude to its customers for their understanding and cooperation during the incident.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks to prevent such incidents from occurring in public spaces. It also highlights the need for emergency response plans to be in place to minimize the impact of unexpected events.
