Anyone else got that one “Ji Hong” (见红) friend who only spawns when there are girls around? 🙄
Seriously, I’ve had it up to here with this guy.
During normal days, messaging him on WhatsApp or Telegram is like sending a letter into a black hole. Ask him out for lunch? “Bro, very busy ah, OT non-stop.” Ask him play games online? “Sorry man, tired, early sleep today.” He can literally ghost the group chat for two weeks straight until we all think he kenna kidnapped or went to jail.
BUT. The moment someone in the group chat mentions:
“Eh Friday night going drink, my female colleagues/friends coming also.”
BOOM. Instant reply within 3 seconds.
“Wah onset! What time? Where? I can drive, I pick you guys up!”
Suddenly his schedule completely cleared up. His OT suddenly disappear, his body no longer tired, and his dead WhatsApp account revived by miracle.
Last week we organised a casual supper at Chomp Chomp. Four guys, zero girls. He confirmed coming at 7 PM. 8:30 PM comes, he still hasn’t turned up. We message him, he says “Eh sorry bro, my stomach not feeling well, last minute cannot make it.” Fine, fair enough, rest well.
Then yesterday, same thing—except two of our uni female friends joined last minute. Guess who showed up 15 minutes early, wearing his best oversiz-ed shirt, freshly styled hair, and spraying half a bottle of expensive perfume until the whole hawker centre smell like Him?
The moment he sits down, totally ignore all of us brothers. Busy doing comedy show, flexing his work stories, throwing jokes left and right, and constantly asking the girls “Eh you hot or not? Want me to order cold drink for you?”
Bro, last week you dying of stomach ache, today you become Gentleman of the Year?
We call him out, he just laugh it off and say “Walao eh, don’t be jealous lah, I just friendly only.” Friendly your head lah, you classic Ji Hong (见红 – see red/girls then turn up).
Reliability level is literally 0/10 unless female presence > 0. Anyone else dealing with this type of friend? How do you guys deal with them without completely cutting them off?
