My brother was always weak-minded and had problems dating SG women, so it was no surprise to me when he decided to marry a woman from China.
When he first introduced her to us, I was sceptical. I didn’t like her from the start and neither did my parents. She seemed greedy and selfish, and I could tell she was only interested in my brother for his money. I tried to warn my brother about her, but he just wouldn’t listen.
When we ask him where he met her, he refused to tell us and said from a work friend. But from the way she dress and talk confirm uneducated and dress like macham working on the streets of Geylang.
My brother and his wife quickly moved into an HDB flat and began their married life together. But it wasn’t long before my brother started to see that she was using him for his money. She would constantly ask him to buy her things, and she seemed to be living beyond her means.
My brother would always give in to her demands, but I could tell he was beginning to regret his decision to marry her.
My parents and I kept trying to warn my brother about his wife, but he refused to listen. He was too in love with her to see the truth. But then the pandemic hit and the borders closed. We all thought that this would be the last straw for my brother and his wife, but it was actually the opposite.
My brother’s wife suddenly seemed to become even more demanding and selfish. She started to pressure him to sell their HDB and said that they should move to China. My brother refused to do it, but she kept pushing him until he eventually gave in.
And then, as soon as the borders reopened, she ran off with all of his money.
My brother was devastated. He had no idea where she was, and he was out of a job and out of money. He was forced to move back in with my parents and me, and it was heartbreaking to see him so broken and hurt.
My brother is still trying to move on from what happened. He has taken on a new job and is slowly trying to rebuild his life and his finances. But he still can’t believe what happened to him. He never should have trusted his wife from China, and he regrets not listening to me and my parents.
There are still many questions that remain unanswered about what happened to my brother and his wife, but one thing is for sure: I never liked her from the start, and I never will.
