WHO – OMICRON SUBVARIANT THAT IS MORE CONTAGIOUS BEING WATCHED CLOSELY

The World Health Organisation (WHO) warned the Omicron subvariant, BA.2, appears to be “steadily increasing” and has now become dominant in countries such as China, India, Philippines and Bangladesh.

According to the New York Times, scientists are monitoring the situation and watching the subvariant closely.

Denmark was the first country to report that the subvariant, BA.2 had overtaken the first version of Omicron, BA.1 that swept through the globe.

There is no evidence to show that the BA.2 is more lethal than BA.1, but there is a possibility of it slowing the decline of Omicron.

The scientists also added that vaccines are just as effective against the BA.2 subvariant.

WHO said that BA.2 now accounts for about 1 in 5 new Omicron cases in the world, and they also warned against reading too much into the drop in cases because the testing rates have also dropped.
