WIFE NOT HAPPY BECAUSE HUSBAND EXCITED TO GIVE OUT ANGPAOS FOR CNY

A netizen shared how her husband was “over-zealous” about giving out angpaos and she asked what’s there to be excited about?

Here is the story:

First CNY as newlyweds, we are now “required” to give ang baos to our younger/single relatives, and my husband is being so annoyingly over-zealous about it.

I mean, what’s there to be excited about? We are giving away our hard-earned money and by no means did any of it come from them.

My husband even took the effort to queue for the new notes, when I told him we should be environmentally friendly and the notes from atm are just as good. Furthermore, he even ordered customized ang baos with his surname on it and made me stay up late with him to pack the ang baos.

Everything just feels so meaningless and I can’t seem to gel on this with him.

Is it me? I just can’t seem to immerse myself in this CNY fever like my husband has. I didn’t want to pour cold water over him, therefore I’m just sucking it up and trying to be participative and trying to ensure he doesn’t overspend (i.e. justifying that our ang bao can just be $8 instead of >$10 since we do not have a child yet and this is our first year)

Hoping for 15 Feb to come sooner so we can be over with this CNY.

Netizens’ comments

People have no idea what your financial situation is and think this is a chance to flex how generous they are.

The holidays are feeling… different this year and you’re not alone. Maybe you can work out a lump sum as a budget, from there he can decide how much $ he wants to put into each..and who he wants to distribute it to.

What matters is that you are putting in the effort to meet him halfway. Don’t let a disagreement over $100 affect your CNY if you can help it.
