Winnie Heng Says She Was Genuinely Angry During Controversial Livestream, “Will Pay More Attention To Behaviour”

Winnie Heng has addressed the controversy surrounding a previous livestream, acknowledging that she became overly emotional and saying she intends to handle similar situations more calmly in the future.

Speaking about the incident, Heng admitted that there were better ways to deal with what happened. She said she was “really way too angry” at the time and accepted that her reaction had crossed the line.

She explained that the frustration was not because cancelled orders could not be resold. According to Heng, the items could still be sold, but the situation was frustrating because regular customers had repeatedly failed to secure their purchases.

Winnie Heng Says Outburst Was Not Scripted

Heng also addressed speculation that the heated exchange had been deliberately staged for views or publicity.

She insisted that her emotions during the controversial livestream were genuine and not part of a script. She said she was genuinely extremely angry at the time and acknowledged that her reaction went too far.

However, Heng clarified that not every moment during her livestreams is completely spontaneous. She explained that she and fellow livestream host Badeline sometimes act out certain scenarios for entertainment, such as pretending to negotiate with sellers.

At other times, however, the reactions are real.

Heng stressed that viewers should not interpret her behaviour as an example to follow, particularly when it comes to swearing at others to gain attention or popularity.

Promises To Control Her Emotions In Future

Reflecting on the incident, Heng said she believed she and her team could have handled their emotions better.

She said that if a similar situation happens again, they would pay closer attention to their behaviour and choice of words. As livestream hosts with a sizeable audience, she recognised that their actions could influence or represent many other people.

Heng also thanked those who continued supporting her but said she never asked supporters to publicly defend her. She expressed concern that supporters could themselves receive negative comments for backing someone who had been seen swearing at others.

Her comments appear to represent an acknowledgement of the controversy while also drawing a distinction between genuine emotional reactions and moments deliberately performed for entertainment during livestreams.

For Heng, the main takeaway from the incident appears to be the need to exercise greater emotional control, particularly when communicating publicly in front of a large online audience.
