In a recent social media post on Facebook, a netizen recounted her unfortunate experience at a local clinic after sustaining a relatively deep knife cut.
The netizen, who works as a waitress and requires a Medical Certificate (MC) to take time off work, visited the unnamed clinic to seek treatment for her wound.
Armed with a Blue Chas (a form of medical coverage), she expected to receive proper care for her injury. However, she was shocked when she received a bill of $30 solely for the wound dressing procedure.
According to her account, the dressing process seemed hasty and inadequate. The medical professional applied only a piece of gauze loosely wrapped around the wound and secured with white tape, which took no more than 30 seconds, if not just a minute.
To her dismay, the dressing came off within a mere 10 minutes, leaving her questioning the quality of the service she had received.
The netizen expressed frustration over the lack of medication or lotion applied to the wound, as one might expect for a relatively deep cut.
Here is what she said
Got a relatively deep knife cut and went to the clinic for MC, essential as I’m working as a waitress. Holding a Blue Chas and was charged $30 for dressing.
No medication or lotion applied on the wound, just a piece of gauze loosely wrapped around my would and secured with white tape, all done under 30 seconds if not 1 minute… And came off within 10 minutes…
Had I known earlier I would be charged $30 for this dressing, I would have gone home and stuck a piece of plaster instead, it might have lasted me longer…
Netizens’ comments
- This happened to my ex colleague at the company clinic. He had to go to TTSC for the wound to be stitched up. Some of these rogue doctors need to be reported to MOH.
- Expected to at the least apply antiseptic lotion/ cream to clean up to prevent infection.
- Did the doctor even do it or did they just get a nurse to do everything?
- Imagine if you are already paying $30 under CHAS Blue card, the doctor is claiming much more from government
- GP charges are always higher. CHAS card will reimburse consultation fee. It’s good to see Dr for your bleeding. Who knows, you might need some stitching? Fortunately it’s not a deep cut.
