Sim’s charge has since been upgraded to murder earlier today and is now accused of causing the death of the baby, Zabelle Peh Yu Xuan.

A court order that forbids her identification was lifted, although the woman’s relation to the baby was not revealed in court documents.

She was originally charged with forcefully dropping the 2-month-old baby into a cot on 8 January knowing that her action would cause grievous hurt to the baby.

The baby suffered a fracture to her skull as a result of Sim’s actions.

The police prosecutor applied to lift the gag order on the identities of both Sim and the baby because the baby had died, which was granted by the court.

The prosecutor also requested for Sim to be remanded a further week, citing investigations and visitations of the crime scene.

Sim appeared in court via a video link from her remand and told the court that she didn’t understand what was going on, saying in Chinese “the police already said I’m guilty, what is there to investigate?”

She is set to return to court next week, after the judge replied that her offence was very serious and that the police need time to finish their investigations after gathering evidence.
