A 42-year-old woman allegedly pressed a heated iron onto her maid’s right arm repeatedly and hit her eyes with her firsts and clothes hangers.
She is due to be charged tomorrow (28 April) with one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, one count of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means and two counts of voluntarily causing hurt.
The Singapore police released a statement, saying that the alleged abuse took place last year, between February and October.
The offence involves a domestic worker, therefore each of her charges will carry enhanced penalties of twice the maximum punishment.
However, it is worth noting that women cannot be caned under Singapore’s law.
The police added:
“The police will not hesitate to take action against errant employers and ensure they are dealt with firmly.”
