A customer who visited a Genki Sushi outlet at Bugis+ with her partner shared that when they were eating a plate of tuna salad sushi, they bit onto a sharp piece of plastic shard that was inside their food, resulting in a cut cheek.
According to a user on TikTok with the handle @theoriginalclaris, an incident occurred at a Bugis+ outlet last Thursday (25 May).
The OP recounted their experience of ordering tuna salad inari, a sushi wrapped in tofu skin and she was filming her partner tucking into the food when her partner’s facial expression changed upon biting into the dish.
They explained that their partner has had unfortunate encounters with fish bones in the past, so they initially wanted to film themselves eating as a joke.
However, to their dismay, the object their partner had bitten into turned out to be a sizable piece of hard plastic, causing a cut on their partner’s inner cheek.
The manager of the outlet acknowledged that the plastic shard originated from the tofu skin packaging. It was suggested that the staff responsible for preparing the inari sushi may have neglected to remove the packaging adequately due to the high volume of orders.
The OP expressed dissatisfaction with the staff’s response, perceiving a lack of concern on their part. The manager reportedly stated that they could only replace the sushi item in response to the incident.
The couple’s appetite was affected, leading them to leave the establishment promptly.
Genki Sushi, the sushi chain involved, issued an apology and offered a 10% discount on the couple’s bill. However, the OP emphasized that their primary concern was food safety standards rather than reimbursement.
The user stated that Genki Sushi contacted them to inform them that they were investigating the incident and would provide further updates.
The sushi chain also left a comment on the video, expressing sincere apologies and assuring customers that food safety and quality have always been their top priority.
