In a bizarre incident, a 59-year-old woman was taken into custody by the Singapore Police Force on June 2nd after she was allegedly found carrying a pair of scissors in her bag near Block 252 Choa Chu Kang Ave 2. The incident occurred at around 10:20 am, and the police have since seized the scissors as a case exhibit.

The woman, who has not been named, was referred to the Institute of Mental Health under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act. She is currently assisting with investigations into voluntarily causing hurt and dishonest misappropriation of property. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Eyewitnesses reported that the woman became agitated when questioned by the police near Keat Hong Shopping Centre, screaming multiple times before her arrest. A video captured by a source shows the woman, dressed in a white shirt, patterned pants, and a mask, murmuring to herself while seated on the ground, restrained by four police officers.

According to the owner of a nearby drinks stall, the woman had visited her shop earlier that morning to purchase coffee. However, the woman suddenly began cursing at the stall’s female employee, making inappropriate comments and suggesting that the employee could earn a substantial income by engaging in prostitution. The stall owner intervened, recognizing that the woman had mental health issues, and advised her employee not to engage with her further.

The woman allegedly went on to cause a disturbance at another shop, elbowing an employee, and then stole feminine products from a third grocery store. A patron at the coffee shop suggested that the woman may have used the scissors to cut bread for bird-feeding, a hobby she was known to enjoy. The stall owner corroborated this, adding that the woman also liked to feed cats and had once tried to feed an animal near her stall.

The incident highlights the importance of addressing mental health issues in the community. While the woman’s actions were disturbing, it is clear that she requires support and treatment rather than punishment. The police investigation is ongoing, and it is hoped that the woman will receive the help she needs to manage her condition and reintegrate into society.

In the meantime, the community is reminded to be vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities. The police are committed to ensuring public safety and will continue to investigate the incident to determine the full extent of the woman’s actions.
