WOMAN CHOPES PARKING LOT AND GET INTO ARGUMENT WITH CAM CAR DRIVER

Woman Sparks Outrage After Trying to ‘Chope’ Parking Lot Along MacPherson

A heated argument broke out at a carpark after a woman attempted to “chope” a parking lot by standing inside the space to block another driver from entering. The incident, caught on a car’s dashcam, has since gone viral online, drawing hundreds of comments from frustrated netizens.

In the video, the woman can be seen standing in the lot while waving off the approaching vehicle. The cam car driver confronted her, reminding her that parking spaces cannot be reserved by physically occupying them. Despite the warnings, the woman continued standing her ground until her husband later arrived with their car.

The situation quickly escalated, with bystanders and online viewers criticising the woman’s behaviour. Many pointed out that “chope-ing” a parking lot is not only inconsiderate but also goes against parking regulations in Singapore.

Public Backlash and Humour Online

Social media erupted with strong reactions, with many mocking the incident. Some jokingly suggested the woman should have placed a packet of tissue paper—commonly used to reserve tables in hawker centres—if she wanted to “chope” the lot. Others sarcastically said she should have “lain flat on the ground with arms and legs open” to secure the space.

One commenter remarked that the son appeared reluctant to be involved but was eventually dragged into the argument, sparking sympathy from some viewers. Others, however, slammed the family for what they saw as entitled behaviour.

Several users also called out the driver of the car she was reserving the space for, saying the responsibility extended beyond the woman herself.

Parking Rules in Singapore

According to the Parking Places Act, no one is allowed to obstruct a parking lot or use it for purposes other than parking a vehicle, unless prior approval has been given by the authorities. This means that reserving a space by standing in it—or placing objects like chairs or cones—is prohibited.

The viral clip serves as a reminder that all motorists should observe proper parking etiquette to avoid unnecessary disputes. Authorities have consistently stressed that disputes should be resolved peacefully and that individuals can contact the police if faced with obstruction at public carparks.
