A video emerged online showing a woman cutting her nails in public, inside an MRT while seated next to other commuters.
The woman was seen seated inside the MRT cabin, holding onto her nail cutters.
She then proceeded to cut her fingernails one by one, with the nails that she cut resting on her backpack.
The woman then swept the cut nails off her backpack and onto the floor, much to the horror of the person filming.
Potential penalties
Although it is unhygienic, we understand that the woman isn’t breaking any laws by cutting her nails inside the MRT cabin.
However, her actions of sweeping the cut nails onto the floor could constitute a littering offence.
Persons found guilty of littering face a fine of up to $2,000 for their first offence, a fine of up to $4,000 for the second offence, and a fine of up to $10,000 for subsequent offences.
