Woman Injured After Car Crashes Onto Orchard Pedestrian Walkway Near Mandarin Gallery

A 25-year-old woman was taken to hospital after a car mounted a pedestrian walkway near Mandarin Gallery along Orchard Road on Wednesday (Aug. 5), leaving onlookers shocked in one of Singapore’s busiest shopping districts.

The accident happened at the junction of Orchard Road and Grange Road at around 3:50pm, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and conveyed the injured woman, who was conscious, to Raffles Hospital for medical treatment.

Car Ended Up On Pedestrian Pavement

Photos and videos circulating on social media showed a grey car resting on the pedestrian pavement outside Mandarin Gallery after the crash.

The vehicle appeared to have collided with a traffic control box, which was left leaning over following the impact. Debris could also be seen scattered around the area as emergency personnel attended to the scene.

Footage captured several paramedics assisting a woman who was seated on the ground nearby before she was taken away by ambulance.

The cause of the accident has not been disclosed.

20-Year-Old Driver Assisting Police Investigations

The Singapore Police Force said a 20-year-old man, who was driving the vehicle, is assisting with investigations into the incident.

Authorities have not announced whether any arrests have been made or if any offences are being investigated at this stage.

Police investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the road and ending up on the pedestrian walkway.

The crash occurred in the heart of Orchard Road, a popular shopping belt that attracts large crowds of locals and tourists daily.

Fortunately, there were no reports of additional injuries despite the incident taking place in a busy pedestrian area.

The accident has sparked discussion online after videos of the damaged traffic control box and the car on the pavement were widely shared across social media platforms.

Authorities are expected to release further information once investigations are completed.
