WOMAN JAILED FOR TAKING ORDERS FROM SCAMMER TO POSE AS POLICE

A woman was jailed after she took orders from a scammer that told her to cheat on an elderly woman by pretending that she was a police officer.

31-year-old, Singaporean, Ho Yin Fen was jailed for 3 months and two weeks.

Background

Ho was contacted by a man who claims that he is a China Police known as ‘Li’ and told Ho that she is under investigation for money laundering.

Straits Times reported that Ho was instructed to report to Li daily and she followed the scammer’s orders.

Later on, a man named “Lu” claimed that he was a Singapore Police officer and said that he will be taking over the case and Ho began taking orders from the new caller.

Lu even managed to convince Ho that there is an ongoing secret investigation that required Ho to deliver documents and open a bank account.

$3,000 was received in the newly open bank account and Ho was told that the $3,000 is used to reimburse her expenses for transportation.

Elderly

Ho was later instructed to print out a set of documents which included a Singapore Police Force warrant card, which she later used to pretend as a Police officer to scam an elderly woman.

The elderly woman had S$36,000 in her account, reported the Straits Times

Luckily the real police caught wind of this scam and managed to stop it and arrested Ho.
