A video emerged online showing a woman jaywalking recklessly across the road and almost getting hit by a motorcycle.
The incident happened on 19 May at about 9.23pm, at a traffic stop along Tampines Avenue 5, and the incident was captured on the dashcam of a nearby vehicle.
The woman was seen emerging from behind a bus as she was jaywalking, and she didn’t appear to have checked her blind spots by looking left and right.
A motorcycle was riding past and was forced to abruptly brake his vehicle, lessening the impact as he hit the jaywalker.
The woman then retreated as the motorcyclist gestured at her, seemingly to scold her for jaywalking, before he continued on his way.
The woman then continued to jaywalk across the opposite side of the road.
Potential penalties
Persons caught jaywalking can be fined $50 on the spot. They can also be charged and fined up to $1,000, or jailed up to three months. Repeat offenders may be fined up to $2,000 or jailed up to six months.
