A 28-year-old woman in China met a tragic end after being hit on the head by a brick. The incident occurred in a food alley at the Wanda Plaza Shopping Mall Night Market.
Local authorities are now conducting an investigation into the matter, as it appears that the culprit behind this unfortunate incident is a repeat offender who had already thrown another brick and a bottle out of the window earlier that day.
Bricks thrown from 33rd floor
The news of this heart-wrenching incident first came to light through a post shared by the victim’s sister on the popular Chinese social media platform Weibo.
According to the post, the woman, referred to as Ms. Lou, lost her life on the 22nd of June at approximately 11 pm. She had been in Changchun, visiting her high school friends, and was residing in a condominium near the Wanda Plaza Night Market.
On that fateful night, Ms. Lou had left her accommodation to grab a bite when tragedy struck. As she walked past a building, three bricks fell from the 33rd level.
The first brick landed on the floor behind her on the right side, while the second one fell behind her to the left. Unfortunately, she couldn’t escape the path of the third brick, which hit her forehead, causing her to collapse with profuse bleeding.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
Seeking justice
The sister of the deceased expressed her grief and called for accountability in her statement. She described her sister as innocent and kind, someone who believed in the safety of today’s society.
The sudden loss of her life during what was supposed to be a vacation has left their family in endless pain and sadness. Ms. Lou’s sister also shared her anguish at the fact that her sister didn’t even get the chance to bid farewell to their family.
Killer was a repeat offender
Eyewitnesses to the incident revealed that if Ms. Lou had been standing just half a step away, she might have avoided the fatal outcome. They further explained that the tragedy unfolded when Ms. Lou paused to look up and see who was behind the first two falling bricks.
The seller at a nearby stall also disclosed that warning signs regarding the possibility of high-rise litter were present in the area. However, these signs were not prominently displayed and were easily overlooked.
Interestingly, there were two other instances of high-rise littering reported in the vicinity a few hours before Ms. Lou’s demise. Thankfully, no one was harmed in those incidents.
Concerned citizens had alerted the police after witnessing the culprit throwing a brick and a beverage bottle from above. The authorities visited the scene but were unable to identify the perpetrator.
Mental Illness and Investigation
The alleged suspect is believed to suffer from a mental illness, as claimed by his family. Police are currently conducting a psychiatric evaluation to ascertain the veracity of these claims.
The grieving sister of Ms. Lou revealed that her entire family has been devastated by the accident. She also discovered that the stairwell between the 30th and 33rd floors of the building was littered with bricks, ceramic tiles, and other items, indicating a potential pattern of dangerous behavior.
However, when she approached the property manager regarding her sister’s tragic incident, she was informed that the materials found in the stairwell were intended for renovation purposes, absolving them of any responsibility for her sister’s untimely death.
