I’ve been lying about having a degree for nearly a decade.
I dropped out of uni so, my only form of higher education is a 2 year Diploma in Business Management and Entrepreneurship.
My family and friends all think I have the diploma AND a degree in logistics but I actually don’t. My employers know the truth, of course, because those guys check these things, so when I’ve moved jobs my experience has played a big part.
I am 32 now and I’ve managed to create quite a good career for myself through hard work, perseverance and fortune, started in sales and now I’m an operations manager in a startup.
My family and friends are none the wiser because I’m living a pretty good life but I’m sure I’d be doing even better if I had a degree and if I also wasn’t lying to the people closest to me

- To be honest, a degree doesn’t even matter. If it did, you wouldn’t be hired, and even students with the best education in their fields wouldn’t be rejected. As long as you do your job properly and don’t mess up too much, you’re fine. Don’t worry, just maintain your quality and you’ll be alright.
- Yeah, I think your experience is more important at this stage. The degree may have opened doors in the beginning but now you have so much experience that I am sure that is more valuable than a degree. Leave them off. It doesn’t matter to anyone else anyway. I wouldn’t feel one bit guilty about it!
- Sounds familiar, I studied philosophy for almost 3 years but never got my bachelors. Sometimes to sound legit I will tell people I have a bachelors in philosophy.
