A woman shared how she was charged a whopping $8 for a small ice cream cone and an ice cream with bread which she bought from an ice cream uncle’s cart outside Tampines MRT station.
Upon receiving the ice cream, the customer inquired about the seemingly elevated price. They claimed to have asked the ice cream vendor three times, “Is it really $8?”
The vendor’s response was noteworthy; he insisted that the ice cream was now larger in size compared to the past, justifying the higher cost.
The situation escalated as the customer expressed their dissatisfaction. However, the vendor stood firm in his stance, refusing to budge on the price.
Despite feeling that they might be getting ripped off, the customer decided not to create a scene due to the vendor’s elder status.
One significant point raised in the Facebook post was the absence of any price indication on the vendor’s cart. The customer asserted that there was no clear display of the ice cream’s cost, leaving potential buyers in the dark about what they were getting into.
In an edit to the post, the customer admitted to only discovering the price after receiving the ice cream. They acknowledged that had they known the cost beforehand, they might not have made the purchase at all.
The customer’s intention in sharing their experience was not to complain but to alert others to the importance of clarifying prices before making a purchase.
Here is what she said
Today I paid $8 Singapore dollars for this 2 ice cream. I asked the uncle 3 times $8?! He say it’s big size now, last time ice cream cone not so big, he was so insistent till the end.
Think I was being ripped off but since he was an uncle I did not make a big hooha. Told him it’s not right to do this but he stood his stance so I paid anyway. Nowhere on the cart did he indicate the price, be wary guys.
@ the junction of Tampines MRT
Edit: I only found out the price after uncle handed me the ice cream. I wouldn’t have bought if knew beforehand. Don’t @ me for complaining after buying. Just putting it here in hopes that people do not take it granted (like I did) and ask for $ before buying.
